The mission of the Middle School counseling program is to provide educational and emotional support for our students as they transition from elementary to high school.
Our main focus is on the individual student’s academic, social/emotional, and career success. For those in need, we discuss how to improve classroom performance, enhance self-esteem, relate better to others, handle peer pressure, deal with loss through death or divorce, handle stress, deal with bullying, improve time management skills, and assist students in making healthy choices.
The counselors’ daily activities may include: attending parent/teacher conferences, teaching classroom counseling lessons, facilitating groups, organizing orientation sessions, leading career activities, to individually counseling students on a daily basis for academic or personal concerns. For these reasons, it is highly recommended that parents call in advance for an appointment to see their child’s counselor.
Referrals for services come either from the students themselves, other students, parents, teachers, or administrators. When appropriate, counselors may refer students to outside agencies for additional counseling. All counselors are members of the Middle School SAP team.
