Criteria for 9th Grade World Language Course Recommendations

 

Spanish

Spanish I

  • Level 2 class
  • Meets 5 days a cycle for a full year
  • 1 full credit
  • Designed for the student who has never taken this language before and who has earned a C or better in a Level 2 English class the year prior
  • Also designed for the student who took Spanish I in 8th grade and earned below a 65%.

Spanish II

  • Level 2 class
  • Meets 5 days a cycle for a full year
  • 1 full credit
  • Designed for the student who has taken Spanish I in 8th grade and successfully passed the course with a 73% or above.

Note: 8th grade students in Spanish I who fall within the range of 66% to 72% will be recommended for the appropriate level by the teacher.

German

German I

  • Level 2 class
  • Meets 5 days a cycle for a full year
  • 1 full credit
  • Designed for the student who has never taken this language before and who has earned a C or better in a Level 2 English class the year prior
  • Also designed for the student who took German I in 8th grade and earned below a 65%.

German II

  • Level 2 class
  • Meets 5 days a cycle for a full year
  • 1 full credit
  • Designed for the student who has taken German I in 8th grade and successfully passed the course with a 73% or above.

  • Level 2 class
  • Meets 5 days a cycle for a full year

French II

  • Level 2 class
  • Meets 5 days a cycle for a full year
  • 1 full credit
  • Designed for the student who has taken French I in 8th grade and successfully passed the course with a 73% or above.

  • Also designed for the student who took Latin I in 8th grade and earned below a 65%.

Latin II

  • Level 2 class
  • Meets 5 days a cycle for a full year
  • 1 full credit
  • Designed for the student who has taken Latin I in 8th grade and successfully passed the course with a 73% or above.

Note: 8th grade students in Latin I who fall within the range of 66% to 72% will be recommended for the appropriate level by the teacher.

Special Notes:

*8th grade world language teachers will use their professional judgment in making recommendations and may vary from the above recommendations as they deem appropriate.

* 8th grade students may switch to a different world language when entering 9th grade.

World Language Course Selection Procedures

  1. Students receive course selection paperwork after meeting with school counselors.
  2. Students consult with their world language teacher to discuss the appropriate world language course selection.  The world language teacher will sign the preliminary course selection sheet.
  3. Language course selection should be discussed at home with parents/guardians.
  4. World language teacher will sign final course selection sheet.
