Language Arts

My name is
Mrs. Connors, and I’d like to officially welcome you to Team Velocity and to our language arts class.  This will be an exciting class and we’re going to learn so much together.  And, as a result, you’re going to do very well.  As we work together this year, you’ll come to learn that I have high expectations for each and every one of my students.  I expect that you will be respectful and responsible and that you will work hard to learn, grow, and improve.  You can expect the same attributes from me.  As your teacher, it is my job to challenge you, to keep you safe, and to support you in a way that helps you find success.  I’m so glad you’ve joined our team, and I cannot wait to get to know all of you and to have some fun while we learn together!

Every day, I expect each student to arrive to class on time with his/her Chromebook, language arts binder, assignments, a pencil or pen, and a reading book We will use our Chromebooks regularly in class.

Suggested Materials:

  • Coloring utensils (markers or colored pencils)
  • 1 inch, 3-ring binder with four dividers (labeled Reading, Writing, Grammar/Vocab, Graded) which will help you to stay organized as the year progresses.
  • If you need any of these supplies or if you have a different organizational system that works for you, just let me know!
  •  If you’re participating in Wildcat Remote Learning, you won’t need a binder, but you DO need to create an ELA 2020 folder in Google Drive with folders Reading, Writing, Grammar/Vocab.  This will help you find work faster when you’re ready to submit it.

We are all here for you—for you to succeed and to enjoy this class and your 7th grade experience.  Because I care about the well-being of each of you, we are going to learn about the behavioral expectations and classroom procedures that will lead to your success.  No one— not you, not a classmate, not an adult— has the right to interfere with your learning, so we will discuss and practice our classroom expectations and procedures throughout the school year.

I truly enjoy teaching, and I feel it is a privilege to work with students each and every day.  I work hard at what I do, and I want you to know that I value your child and your family.  As the year continues, if you have any questions about your child’s progress or our class, please let me know.  You can reach me by email at [email protected] or call 717-244-4021 ext. 2280.  I’ll do my best to get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you for the trust you place in your child’s school community and for all that you have done and continue to do to support it.*
