Chromebook Devices - Summer Break

Dear Parents & Guardians of Current 7th Grade D.A.M.S. students:

    Having completed another school year with the use of the student Chromebook devices, we are very pleased with the positive impacts that have been observed in the classrooms and the responsible use our students have demonstrated.  As we prepare for summer, we are informing you that our students in grade 7 will maintain and utilize the same device for the 2017-2018 school year.  We strongly encourage our 7th grade students to keep their assigned device over the summer and continue to use it for educational purposes and increasing their knowledge for how the device can be used as a creative learning tool.

    This opportunity is available to all our 7th grade students.  Previously purchased 2016-2017 D.A.S.D. protection plans will continue to cover accidental damage repairs over the summer.

    With summer, take-home and use of the device, we ask that our students:

  • Continue the responsible use modeled during the school year
  • Keep the device in the case and in a safe/secure location
  • Keep the battery charged so that it does not fully deplete (fully depleted batteries that sit for an extended period are more likely to experience future battery issues)
  • Return the device, case, and charger if they withdraw from the Dallastown Area School District
  • If the device is damaged, return immediately to the district so that the device can be repaired and be ready for the student to use whey arrive for the start of the new school year
  • Return to school on the first day of the new school year with the device charged and ready to use

     If the device is damaged over the summer, we ask that you contact our technology office to arrange for the device to be dropped off and a repair scheduled.  Due to summer workload demands, devices needing repair will be returned to the student at the start of the 2017-2018 school year.

    We ask that you complete and return the attached form regarding DASD Summer Device Use to your child's homeroom teacher NO LATER than Wednesday, May 31. DASD Summer Device Use.pdf 

     If you elect (as per the attached form) to not allow your child to retain the device over the summer break, your child should be prepared to turn in their school issued Chromebook device, charger cord, and case at the team designated turn in time on May 31 or June 1.  At that time, your child and their homeroom teacher will conduct an inspection of the device for damages and complete a checklist so that necessary repairs can be conducted over the break.  Accidental damage to the device will be covered under the DASD Protection Plan if you elected to purchase it at the start of the 2016 - 2017 school year.  Negligent or malicious damage will not be covered under the terms of the protection plan and a repair/replacement cost will be billed to the student's account.
